What is Fasted Cardio?

Fasted cardio refers to performing cardiovascular exercise without consuming any food between 8-12 hours beforehand. This means that your body is in a fasted state, where it relies on stored fat for energy rather than glucose for carbohydrates.
I first heard of fasted cardio when I worked at Equinox in NYC. There was a group of Tropicana bikini models who would come in early before breakfast and do 30 minutes of cardio. Right afterwards they would head straight to the cafe for a well-balanced breakfast. They swore by it to keep them fit.
Those Tropicana ladies were on to something. It's been scientifically proven the best time to eat is 30-45 minutes after working out. It's called an "anabolic window". Your muscles are most receptive to nutrients, particularly protein and carbohydrates, immediately following exercise. This allows for optimal muscle repair and glycogen replenishment, which is crucial for recovery and performance enhancement for your body.
